  6. How many boys were playing (play) in the ground?
  7. I finished (finish) my work yesterday.
  8. The students have just gone (go) out.

Explanation:

  • (i) "The earth" is a singular subject and a universal truth, so present simple tense "moves" is used.
  • (ii) The present continuous tense requires "going" after "are".
  • (iii) "Yesterday" indicates past simple tense, so "gave" is correct.
  • (iv) After "has", the past participle "sold" is used.
  • (v) The past perfect ("had left") requires the past simple "reached" for the later action.
  • (vi) "Were" is followed by the present participle "playing".
  • (vii) "Yesterday" requires past simple "finished".
  • (viii) "Have just" requires the past participle "gone".

Commands use 'to + verb'.

10. Complete the following sentences by choosing the correct passive forms : 2×1=2

  1. (i) A lesson has been taught by teacher.

Back, Money is external.
He is learning, well behind his desperate eyes,

Context: This stanza is from the poem “The Ball Poem” by John Berryman. It describes a boy who has lost his ball and is learning about the nature of loss.

Explanation: The poet says that no one can buy back a lost ball because money is external and cannot replace emotional attachments.
